In partnership with Public Health Advocatesthe Sacramento chapter of the California Faculty Association, and Sacramento State's Department of Political Science, the Sacramento Valley Psychological Association is bringing the documentary "Reimagining Safety" to the Sacramento community on Friday September 22, 2023 4pm - 7pm at the Hinde University at the Sacramento State University Union.

The purpose of this event is to build more awareness of "how policing and incarceration create more harm than good, why the system persists, and what changes can be made to make everyone safe," as there is a direct connection between policing & incarceration and trauma & mental illness.

Following the film screening, we will hold a discussion panel that will include the filmmaker Matthew Solomon and local community experts to share their experiences in reimagining safety and answer questions from the audience. We will also host an off-campus "afterparty" reception at a local establishment for our panelists and distinguished guests.
