Connecting with Primary Care: A Developmental Discussion

by: Alex L. Andrade Jr., Psy.D. and Marcella Kreysa, Psy.D.

Description:

Integrated primary care is considered the future direction of psychological treatment. Clinicians who practice in more traditional settings or who do not have direct clinical experience in these settings might feel disconnected or, at worse, at a professional disadvantage in the near future. This presentation will provide clinicians with an overview of primary care and the experience of two psychologists at different developmental points in their primary care experience. The focus will be to educate clinicians about the basics of primary care along with ways to develop a connection with primary care providers and patients. The audience will have opportunities to participate in a discussion about their own knowledge, experiences, and interactions with primary care providers and patients.

Objectives:

As a result of the presentation participants will have a better understanding of the following:

1) what an integrated primary care approach entails; 2) how primary care benefits patients and some common interventions used; 3) how traditional clinicians can explore their own developmental level with primary care; 4) how treatment clinicians can develop collaborative treatment interactions and communications.

This is a 2-hour presentation, including time for discussion and questions. Two hours of CEU credit being offered for those registered with the Board of Psychology, Board of Behavioral Sciences, and Board of Registered Nursing.
