Greg Neimeyer, PhD, is a professor in the department of psychology at the University of Florida and a fellow of APA's Div. 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology). A previous chair of the executive board of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs in the United States, Neimeyer has also been inducted as a lifetime member into the Academy of Distinguished Teacher Scholars. At the invitation of the American Psychiatric Association, he completed their Train-the Trainers Institute in San Francisco at the official launch of the DSM-5, and has written published reviews of the DSM-5 and the ICD-10-CM.


Description:

This intermediate-level workshop provides a context for understanding the ICD-10-CM in relation to the DSM-5.  It is designed for professionals who have an effective working knowledge of the DSM-5 and are interested in understanding the way it which it articulates with the ICD-10-CM. Features of the DSM and the ICD are compared and contrasted, and a “crosswalk” between the two systems is detailed in relation to various disorders. 6 CE credits approved by the California Psychological Association for psychologists, MFT and LCSW.



Objectives:

  • Describe differences between the DSM and the ICD
  • Discuss disorders, or classes that are in either the DSM or the ICD but are not in the other
  • Identify the “Anatomy of an ICD code” and what kind of information each character in the code provides
